What Website Owners know about you!

It’s a lovely sunday and I’m sitting in front of my laptop and visit my favourite Website. Well, you have to know, that I like to… well.. um… how can I express it in a non obscene way? Let’s just say I like to surf for “beautiful pictures”. Nothing illegal here, but I sure wouldn’t like to be traced down. But did you know, that this possible? At least technically? Website owners know who is visiting their Sites. They know which Operating System they use, which Browser and…which IP. This is important stuff folks. The IP adress works as a identifier within a computer network. Everytime you login to say.. AOL, you get a new IP adress. This IP adress can be used to identify YOU! Internet Service Provider are able to match your IP with your home adress. Sounds scary? Did I already say that Website Owners know your IP everytime you access their sites?

They can’t identify your home adress without calling the police or having some “friends” at the right places. But they can use free tools to trace you down.. at least roughtly. Which country, which state. http://www.dnsstuff.com is such a site. Do you want that to happen? I don’t know if I feel comfortable knowing that prn site owner can trace my down, while I surf “beautiful pictures”.

Ok, computer literates may notice that I’m exaggerating. But this doesn’t change my view, that you should cover you identity whenever you can. Web based proxys can help you covering your traces, help you surf the net anonymously.
